Art and Design Intent, Implementation, and Impact Statement

Intention (Why do we teach what we teach?)

Our Art curriculum is designed to ensure learners:

· Develop a passion for and appreciation of art.

· Gain meaningful opportunities to express creativity, acquire new skills, and refine existing ones.

· Reflect on and respond to various art stimuli, voicing thoughts and questions

· Explore cultural and historical movements relevant to society

· Address topics we are learning in other areas of the curriculum through art.

Implementation (How do we teach it?)

Our Art curriculum is taught:

· Progressively, starting with foundational skills in Early Years, including fine motor development

· Using our own tailored scheme of work, ensuring skills are revisited and built upon year after year for steady progression

· Through a range of tasks that align with year group themes, adding context to learning

· Encouraging students to become artists, with exposure to diverse materials and techniques

· With opportunities for students’ work to be displayed across the school, from sketchbooks to communal areas

Impact (What has been the impact and how do we know?)

The impact of the Art curriculum is evident through:

· Creation of experimental, expressive, and varied art that meets learning objectives

· Application of art skills across the curriculum, demonstrating embedded knowledge

· Peer feedback and constructive assessment among students

· Self-reflection and independent evaluation of their work

· Growing evidence of skill progression in students' sketchbooks

· Student voice, with the ability to discuss artists, art terminology, methods, and style
